Food shopping and Meal planning

What’s for tea ???? I here this question numerous times throughout the week ….

I start off being very organised ordering food online and planning meals for the week. But slowly this is gets a thing of the past. I still mostly order online and still plan some of our meals but what I’m find is when it gets to the day to actually have the planned meal we either forget to take the meat out of the freezer or we don’t fancy the planned meal. Anyone else struggle with this?  This has resulted in a cupboard full of stuff I have bought but never used. But still we keep buying more and more each week and also buying extra food in the week of things we fancy on top of our weekly shop results in spending way too much on food! Our food bill outgoings are second to our mortgage !!

So I plan or not plan to use up all the surplus food I have in my cupboards half packets of maccaroni and bag of Bulgar wheat fish stock cubes tinned coconut milk etc etc.

Instead of looking through my endless cookbooks and planning “new”meals I am going to plan our meals around things we already have in the cupboards, just buying the essentials to go with these. I hope this results in emptier cupboards and few more pounds in our pockets…..we will see

How does everyone else find meal planning and food shopping?

Do you plan meals ?

Do you buy weekly or daily ?

How do you budget / how much do you spend per week food/drink ?

I’d love to hear how everyone else manages this endless task on a weekly basis.

Until next time

In the past, I used to plan practically for the month and then buy accordingly – fruit and veg bought weekly. Now, I pretty much plan for the week and shop weekly. That seems to work.
    Have a great week. 🙂

Caroline I feel your pain. I have a list of tried and true meals that my family enjoys. Then I buy meat when it is on sale. I also keep a running grocery list so I never run out of the pantry items. Then I shop for fruit, veg and dairy weekly and I base my meals on what is on sale or fresh. If you family gets bored you might start a Pinterest board on say Chicken and one one Beef. That way you can change it up but not go overboard. I have those boards on Pinterest. Check it out. Good luck
