5 ways to beat the Winter blues

January is by far the worst month, the dark cold nights, the realisation of the fact we have gained for more weight than we thought over the festive period and the excitement of Christmas is over.  It’s easy to get yourself down in the dumps. The house looks so bear from taking down all the Christmas decorations and we no longer have an excuse to have a cheeky Baileys in the middle of the day.  Although I quite like the bear house part, the satisfaction of a nice clean and clear house after the post-Christmas clear up is something I relish.

So I thought I would share a few ways in which you can beat the winter blues, and bring a little Hygge into your life.

  Ways to beat the winter blues.

Quit the resolutions and plan some goals or make a bucket list for the year ahead. Get a new diary or calendar and mark on all you have to look forward to for the year. If you don’t have much pre planned think about things you would like to do throughout the year. Maybe a mother’s day afternoon tea for you and your mum, a trip the seaside or a bbq with friends. Its nice to have things to look forward to. Spending time with the people we care about makes it just that little more special. Memories are made from spending time with the people we love not sitting at home feeling depressed about the weather.

Enjoy your Christmas presents, run a hot bath and try out your new bubble bath or start a new skin care routine with your new creams lotions and potions. Maybe you got a new scented candle for christmas ? I really love candles, the sight and smell of candles brings a warm and cosy feeling to any home. Don’t pack them away in the cupboards with the Christmas decorations and forget about them get them out and enjoy them.

If your living room is looking a little bear from packing away the decorations get that cosy feeling back with a few new cushions or a new cosy blanket. There is nothing better than a cosy blanket to get snuggled in on a night to create that cosy feeling.

We spend way too much time indoors over Christmas so it’s a good plan to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Stop complaining about the cold winter weather and instead plan a wintery walk, wrap up warm in your new knits or wool hat and scarf and take in the outdoors. These last few days it’s been the perfect weather to get outdoors and enjoy a lovely walk. I love the icy cold crisp days when the sun is shining.

Be sociable, don’t isolate yourself, invite friends over for an informal dinner or meeting up for a coffee. Being with family, friends and loved ones creates a sense of warmth. I love nothing more than getting everyone round and cooking a big yummy Sunday lunch.

So if you’re struggling with beating the winter blues and missing the excitement of Christmas you definitely need a little bit of Hygge in your life.

    Definitely agree about filling diary up with plans and setting goals/dreams for the year. i don’t get why people don’t like new year – i love it. it’s a fresh start and I am excited about the year ahead with lots to look forward to! And yes to getting out when it’s a nice day too!

      I totally agree Susie it’s a brand new year full of new experiences new places to visit. I can’t wait to get out and about.

    I hate January. I have frizzy hair. I have grey skin. You get the picture lol. Fab tips. I definitely need to do more bubble baths (the bathroom is the only place I get any peace some days) and start a bucket list of things to do in the summer. Yey! Feeling better already xx

      Glad you feeling better, yes the bathroom is a good place to get a bit of peace and quiet…..I’m currently writing my Spring bucket list roll on lighter nights and longer days.
