Move over Hygge its time for Lagom

2016 was the year of cosiness warmth lighting candles at any given opportunity snuggling on the sofa with our fluffy blankets, chunky knits drinking hot Chocolate and eating stew, who can blame me for loving all things Hygge.

I am not ready to give up Hygge just yet but there is more…… Lagom the new Scandinavian term set to take over 2017. At least I can actually pronounce this one unlike it’s counterpart Hygge. So Lagom is a Swedish word and translates as  – just the right amount

It appears that Goldilocks had it all figured out and we need to take a leaf out of her book. My Husband on the other hand gave me a sidewords look when I tried to explain the concept to him “here we go again” I could hear him saying. I am always after the next big fix but maybe just maybe having a bit of what you fancy really doesnt hurt. Lagom is about creating balance in all aspects of our lives, not too much not to little just the right amount. Creating the perfect balance, everything in moderation, simply creating a sustainable healthy lives, the right amount of work and play in our ever so busy lives. Not having too much of one thing or choosing between one or the other but just the right amount of everything. This may not be for everyone but it sounds good to me.

Do you feel like your new years resolutions are already slipping by the way side ? If you do sit back and think for a minute am I putting too much pressure on myself? Do I really need to attend every social occasion, eat green smoothies, have no alcohol or go to the gym everyday. Yes we can still go out and socialise with friends have a drink and go to the gym nothing is off limits with Lagom it’s about finding a balance that works for you and your life. Everything in moderation.

While Hygge is about creating cosiness and indulgence Lagom is more a way of life, I cant laze on the sofa with my snuggly blanket drinking hot chocolate all the time can I ??? as much as I’d love to. So although I’m not giving up on Hygge Lagom is being welcomed into our lives too. It is the perfect partner to accompany my decluttering goal which I set at the beginning of the year. This is a slow process but its something I really want to carry on with.

Im starting with a few ideas of how I am going to incorporate Lagom into our lives while still enjoying a little bit of Hygge. I’ve recently come to realise that I long for the simpler things in life, a less complicated and more content life is what I hope to gain from this. So here goes…

  • creating a more de-cluttered and minimalist home using my love of Scandinavian living. Simple and minimalistic.
  • waste less, food, money, water, energy.
  • be a bit more frugal and save some money
  • still indulge on the things we love
  • enjoy the little things in life
  • relax and unwind.

So this is the way I’m focusing my life and blog and I really hope you will stick around to see how we get on.

I hope you have enjoyed reading.

Until next time

Caroline X
