Not just a Mum – Carter family 4 is Changing…

I started my blog almost two years ago as a way of documenting our days as a family, it was a way of forfilling my photography hobby whilst also enjoying writing at the same time. My first year I didn’t write that much and wasn’t so conscious about when I scheduled a post or about promoting it on social media. I didn’t even pay much attention to who was reading if I’m honest. I was happy to just tap away creating my little corner of the web. As time has gone on I have started to gain more followers and in the past year my blog has slowly grown and I am now gaining much more monthly views. I have worked with some great brands and I am now much more serious about my blog and where I want to take it.

This past year I decided to go self hosted, and as a result I feel like my blog has grown so much more and I am finally finding my niche. Although I still love to share my family adventures, I am conscious that my kids are growing up. My eldest starts secondary school in the summer and I’m sure he will not want me posting his face all over my blog for much longer.

So has I move into my third year of blogging, I will continue to share our family and travel adventures but with much less emphasis on the kids.  I’m using this space to write about what I want! I know that this my seem obvious but I need to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone, writing more about the things I feel passionate about. You have probably already realised I am a big love of cosy living and sharing ways to simplify life, I am also very keen to share more about health and wellbeing. We live such busy lives and sometimes need to be reminded to take a bit of “me” time. Its hard to think of yourself as a person in your own right when you are so used to be being a mum wife etc etc. Its also hard to think about the person you are under all those roles when you’re so used to having so many shoes to fit into. I love being a mum and find it hard that my kids are growing up so quickly, they are becoming much more independent but I’m really trying to embrace this next chapter in my life and gain a little of my old self back.

So what can you expect from me ?

My could-do lists

You may have seen these already, I started writing my own could-do list after I continued to love reading them each month in The Simple Things Magazine  . These could-do lists include plans I  would like to do for upcoming month, not a must do list, this list is for your own pleasure and you should not feel any pressure to tick everything off but instead a gentle reminder of areas in your life you want to focus on. I hope these lists give you the inspiration to write your own could-do list. I’d love to hear what you include.

Self care and mental health is something I think as women we all need to be more aware of, we focus much more time on our physical health and put much less time into our mental health. I really think we need to cut ourselves some slack, focus a little more on our minds and stop feeling guilty for looking after ourselves. I plan to write much more on this subject and be more mindful of it in my own life.

I’m going to be sharing ways in which you can simplify your life and your mind, I want to empower women to move away from the feeling of stress and overwhelm and move forward to a more balanced and fulfilled life.

I am also on my own journey as I continue to share with you ways we can all cut down the everyday stresses and live a much simpler life.

I love taking photos and will continue to learn and develop my photography skills more in the next year which will hopefully help to continue to grow my blog.

I have always loved to travel and have serious Wanderlust, and as I said I still plan to share our family adventures and travels documenting our holidays and everyday adventures.

I’m really trying not to get bogged down with social followings and stats but at the same time I want to continue to grow my blog. I would love to continue to gain followers on social media and also have more readers of my blog. I can then see that people actually like what I write. Instagram is my favourite social media platform and my instagram account runs along side my blog, it is where I post most days and is a little extention of my blog, almost a microblog in its self. Instagram is a tough nut to crack and I’m really finding it hard to gain followers. So hopefully this year I can also grow that side of my blog too.

I really hope you continue to enjoy my posts as Carterfamily4 grows, changes and continues into its third year.

I’d also love some feedback on what you enjoy reading.

What are your favourite type of posts to read on my blog ? Is there anything you’d particularly like me to write more of ?

Until next time

Caroline X

Great to hear more about your future plans for the blog – this seems a natural progression for you. I love reading your posts about simple living and the Scandinavian way of life too. It’s always so refreshing to hear your ideas and helps me put life in balance. I look forward to reading more in 2018! xx

I love to see how people develop… I had to make the jump from ‘just’ a Mummy to a blog writer a few years ago, and it was hard. Not having cute things to post up every few days meant bringing the Big Game to the table. Good luck in 2018! I read, and follow on Instagram, but I’m a bad comment maker on blogs.

It’s really great that you’ve taken the time to think about your direction now the kids are getting older. My kids are a similar age to yours, and already are fussy about what I can share or what they want to get involved in. They are often awkward about getting photographed too! So channeling your direction a bit sounds a brilliant idea. Good luck!

I love the idea of a Could-Do list! The pressure of to-do is too much.
    Best of luck.

A ‘could do list’ is a great idea, to have things written on paper but at the same time not beating yourself up if they don’t happen. Good luck for 2018.

I wish you the best of luck with everything. It sounds like you are moving in the best direction. Follow your gut. All the areas you talk about sound interesting and are topics I would be interested to read about. Tour writing style is easy to read and very calming.

I look forward to watching your blog grow. With regards to the fashion elements, start small. Maybe incorporate little boys into other sections a, such as writing about skincare or nail care products under the self care element rather than a fashion/beauty post, just whilst you gain some more confidence.
