Dont know what to buy the man in your life this Christmas? What about a beer subscription. My husband thought Christmas had come early when the lovely guys at Beer52 sent us one of their boxes of the Christmas craft beers to try out. My husband has recently got into trying different beers and not just sticking to the old faithful larger he’s drank for years. So he was a very happy man when these specially selected beers arrived for us to try.
Beer52 is an online monthly subscription of craft beers, Discover small batch craft beers delivered straight to your door. The subscription is £24 a month and you will receive 8 specially selected craft beers and a copy of Ferment magazine giving you the low down on the beers you’ve been sent as well as other great info about craft beers and their origin. If there is anything you don’t like you can log in and update your preferences at any time. There is also an option to pick and mix your case in their bottle shop. If you fancy something a little extra special for an extra £5 you join in with Specials club and get 2 expert selected beers added to your case.
Because it is nearly Christmas December’s box is all things festive and the magazine has some very interesting beer cocktails. Yes you heard right beer and cocktail in the same sentence. I’m realising beer is more interesting than I first thought and not just for the men in our lives its for us ladies too.
If the Victoria “scrambled eggs in warm beer” doesn’t appeal, never fear. We asked the award -winning mixologists at Edinburgh’s Panda & Sons to whip up a couple of simple seasonal beer cocktails using bottles from this month’s Beer52 box.
Craft beer obsessive James Brown discovered his passion for craft beer during an epic road trip from his home in Edinburgh to Faro, on the back of his dad’s Harley-Davidson. Stopping at tiny pubs and brewhouses along the way, he found beers that were not only delicious, but that he’d never heard of before.
Here is a quick look at what we received
Single hop I P A
Santa’s private reserve
Fuck art, the heathens are coming
Eesti Rukki Eli
Each beer has its own little story in the Ferment magazine explaining the origin of the beer and the type of taste you are going to get from the beer.
We both really enjoyed sampling these beers and would definitely look at trying out more craft beers. My husband especially enjoyed the Littlebro IPA with orange zest and mango flavour. Some may think that £24 a month is a little pricy for a subscription box but that is only £3 per bottle and these are unique craft ales from small companies that only do small runs. They are very unlikely to be on the shelves in your local supermarket. So if you are looking for something slightly different to buy someone who has everything and receive £10 discount off your first box enter CARTERS10 at the checkout and grab one of the Beer52 subscription boxes.
Until next time
