Last week I was invited to attend a Mini First Aid course.
Mini First Aid Sheffield is run by the lovely Alex who’s working background is a pediatric nurse from the Children’s Hospital Sheffield. She is a mum too and knows all too well about the worries Mums and Dads face with babies and young children all the time. Alex ran the course with Jodie another Mum and we’re both friendly yet professional in the delivery of the course.
The course is run to teach parent grandparents and careers the importance of baby and child first aid. I would like to think that if something was to happen to my child or another child that I would be able to help them. This course definitely delivered this and I hope I never have too, but would feel much more confident when dealing with an emergency having now done the course. Its always something you say you will get round to doing and I’m so glad I went along and have now done it.
We went through a number of topics including
- What you need in a first aid kit
- Febrile, Seizures, Convulsions
- Bumps to the head
- Broken bones
We received a booklet outlining all the topics covered to take away which is really helpful to read at home afterwards and can be looked back over if you needed to check over something.
The course was very open and relaxed and was opportunity to practice techniques if you wished to which was great. I’ve done first aid courses before for my own job but I find they are always more focused on adult first aid so this course was great as it was parents and carers with the focus being on babies and children.
The courses are run in and around Sheffield in a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure. So if you think you would like to join in with one of the courses and learn about child and baby first aid check out the Mini first aid Sheffield. There you will find out loads of information about the course date available.
If you don’t live in the Sheffield area and still interested check out the Mini first aid were you can find out were the nearest course is in your area.
It really was a great course and would benefit anyone with children.
Until next time
