This week me and Ruby started reading Three Times Round the Corkscrew Tree A Katherine Baker Adventure By Jocelyn Porter which was very kindly sent to review.
Ruby is not always fond of reading but when the book arrived she was keen to start reading it. The cover is very beautifully illustrated and I think this helped engage Ruby in the story from the start.
“You put ingredients in a bowl, stir them together and put a sticky mixture in the oven. You set the timer and when it goes ping the mixture has changed into a cake. Its like pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
The book is a 152 page story book suitable for young readers who have just started to read more confidentiality and a little more independent if they wish. My daughter is 8 and half and quite easily read the book to me with just a little help needed with a few tricky words. The book also has small black and white illustrations to keep younger readers interested.
Ruby soon got into the story and loved the magically twist of what Katherine got up to in her Grandmas kitchen. She was eager to read a little more each evening and although what seemed like quite a long book we got through the story quite quickly.
This book would make a great read for any little girls age 7 – 9 although I’m sure my son William would read it too. Three Times Round the Corkscrew Tree is available to buy from Amazon currently priced 4.99
Until next time
