A weekend in Edinburgh

Whilst the kids were off school for October half term we decided to visit the Scottish City of Edinburgh. It was our second visit to the city, but first for the kids. Edinburgh is such a big city with lots to see and do we just knew they’d love it.

We decide to take the train to get there, this made the journey much more enjoyable for us all, especially my husband who too could relax and not endure the very long drive to get there.

We stayed at the Jurys Inn a great hotel right next to Waverley train station and also in the heart of the city. This made getting around very easy and everywhere was in walking distance.

We arrived on the Saturday around 12.30 and quickly dropped out bags at the hotel before heading straight out to start exploring and have some lunch.

We walked up on to the Royal Mile and had a little wander, the kids loved watching the street performers and looking in all the little shops.

Sunday we had already prebooked our tickets to Edinburgh zoo , it’s very close to the centre and is very easy to get to either by bus or taxi.

Monday was very much all about exploring the city somemore including the Royal mile, Princes Street gardens, Grassmarket and not forgetting Edinburgh Castle.

They both loved the connection of Harry Potter to the City. Did you know JK Rowling wrote some of her books in Edinburgh and a lot of the places in the books have direct links with Edinburgh. Many of Edinburgh’s landmarks may have been the inspiration for Harry Potter locations such as Victoria street (Diagon Alley) and Heriott Watt school (Hogwarts. They especially enjoyed visiting the The Harry Potter shop  to look at all the wonderful memrerbelia and even dressing up as Harry themselves.

We had such an amazing time taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. There are so many amazing things to see and do in Edinburgh we still have many to tick off, we will definitely return.

Here’s a few pictures from our adventures of the city.

Have you ever been to Edinburgh? Would you recommend anywhere else in Scotland to visit has a family?

Until next time

Your photos are so fabulous! It looks like you’ve seen much more of the city than I have. We have resolved to go up there more often. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh it looks so mystical and magical! Your photos are so wonderful and inspiring. I’ve never been to Edinburgh, but my hubby has and is always talking about how he wants to take me one day. I visited Scotland as a child and just remember loving the islands so much. We went to the Isle of Mull and the Isle of Arran and they were both beautiful! x
