Once upon a time in Mexico

I can not believe it has only been just over two weeks since we got back from our wonderful holiday in Mexico. I have really been trying to not let the holiday blues kick in but this week has definitely pushed me to the limits, a broken washer a dish washer with a lose wire which kept tripping the electric and a very busy week at work, and the joys of dealing with the stresses of being an 8-year-old girl …..pass me the Gin.

So I decided it was about time I shared with you some of our pictures from our holiday, I will not bore you with the two hundred or more picture my husband and I manage to take between us but I will share some of our favourites. If I close my eyes I can still feel the warmth from the afternoon sun as we stepped off the plane that first day.

We travelled to Mexico from Birmingham airport . We checked our luggage in the night before and headed to an hotel for the night ready  for our early flight the next morning. I love doing that it really starts your holiday off with less stress the next morning. we took our bags to the room then headed to the restaurant for some tea and a couple of drinks ….well it would be rude not to right …? We are on holiday after all……well nearly ….

We flew to Mexico on the Thomson Dreamliner, The flight was great the kids well behaved, I even managed to watch a couple of films.

The day we arrived we ended having a early night due to the long flight and the time difference so this resulted in a very early morning the next day, That first morning we managed to get down to the beach to see the beautiful sunrise. This was the only early morning my I add. Each day we seemed to get slightly later with the busy days in the sun and late nights we never got to make it down again. Its amazing how tired you get doing very little. The sunrise was around 6.30 am and by that time it seemed like we had been up hours ….I think we actually had !! I love this time of day it really is so still and quiet but there was also quite a few people down on the beach but nobody really saying anything to anyone just taking it all in and enjoying the quiet beach before it filled for the day of sunbathers. I immediately felt relaxed it is such a beautiful beach and the sound of the waves crashing up the kids could not wait to have that first paddle in the sea and immediately went running down to the shore. The sand was powdery white and the water was surprisingly warm as we reached the waters edge. The kids splashed a round a little and we just watched them for a few minutes also watching as the sunshine slowly came up above the sea. A few people were jogging and like us a little just enjoying that beautiful time of day.

The kids had the best time with the kids club who work so hard to make sure the kids have a great time. They put on themed days including a Mexican day where they had a Mexican feista including piñata party. They also did a pirate day including a treasure hunt. It was mothers day in Mexico while we were there so all the kids made gifts for their mums to celebrate. They really did a fantastic job, And because ours kids are that little bit older now 8 and 9 and the club was directly next to the pool where we spent most of the day it ment that they could pop in and out to join in the activities as they wished.

On other days we enjoyed body boarding jumping in the waves, We took bread from the buffet and fed the fish swimming round our legs. You just had to watch for the seagulls which dive bombed to get the bread.

We spent lazy days enjoying relaxing around the pool or on the beach drinking cocktails and eating yummy food. It really was lovely to leave the hectic way of life behind and just enjoy each others company.

On one of the days whilst the kids were off on a pirate treasure hunt we enjoyed coconut rum cocktails and the delicious beach bbq, The kids soon realised and joined in with their own non alcohol version.

Where we stayed in the Playacar resort  was less than 10 minute taxi ride into Playa del carmen main town where 5th ave the main street where the old town meets the new shopping malls and many restaurants.

We had such a wonderful time once again this was our 5th trip to Mexico and I can honestly say I would really love to go again. We have stayed at various resorts but our time spent at the Playacar resort was truly amazing and really hope we will be able to come back again some day.

Here are few other pictures from our holiday or our little family.

I hope you have enjoyed a little bit of Mexico.

Until next time

Caroline x
