Shrek the Musical // Review

There is definitely something special about seeing a live performance of a show with so much excitement, from the live music to the costumes and the whole production just wows me everytime.

So when we got invited to a special bloggers event at the Lyceum Theatre Sheffield we jumped at the chance.

The whole show was wow and more, much more.

We were invited by the lovely people at Sheffield Theatres to attend a special afternoon matinee performance of Shrek the musical, with an extremely warm welcome and behind the access to meet a couple of the fairytale characters and receive our very own Shrek ears, ice cream voucher and of course the very important tickets to see the show.

After meeting one of the Three Little Pigs or should I say not so little, we headed back downstairs to find our seats and await the start of the show.

Its a long time since I visited the Lyceum theatre, and had forgot how beautiful this place was. The whole theatre is absolutely stunning and definitely has the wow factor.

We got seated and awaited the shows start. Our seats were in a great spot right in the centre on the stage and half way back in the stalls so pretty perfect seating.

Shrek has always been a favourite of mine but I’ve never seen the musical so I was pretty excited. The kids had seen the film but had forgot the storyline.

From the very start the show was simply amazing, from the costumes to the scenery and also the music. We were clapping along and laughing from start to finish. The adult humour was carefully placed throughout the performance which ment that the show appealed to everyone. My 11 year old son also ‘got’ a couple of the adult jokes and thought it was hilarious especially the farting and burping jokes.

The whole cast were fantastic especially Donkey, who has always been my favourite part of the Shrek movies and loved him just has much in the show. Also the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad was so funny and kept everyone laughing with some of the more adult jokes and hilarious dance routines.

The kids were thoroughly gripped with the whole show from start to finish. They loved the music and were singing and dancing in their seats all way through, we all had the best of afternoons.

Shrek the Musical is definitely a feel good show and put a very big smile on everyone’s face.

A big thankyou to Sheffield theatres for inviting us, we had a brilliant time and would highly recommend Shrek the musical to anyone young or old, so if you get  a chance to go and see it please do.

Shrek the Musical is in various theatres up and down the country until the end of the year.
